ESTER MATERON-ARUM SCHOLARSHIP (GRADUATE)

 
 

DESCRIPTION

The Ester Materon-Arum Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship that will be awarded to alumni members of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc. who have successfully graduated from an accredited undergraduate institution with a bachelor’s degree. If an alumni member is starting a graduate program, the undergraduate minimum cumulative GPA must be 3.00/4.00 scale. If an alumnae member is currently engaged in a graduate program the minimum cumulative GPA must be 3.50/4.00 scale or higher. Proof of enrollment for in respective academic year for cycle, in a graduate program is required prior to funds being released.

Eligibility & Award Criteria

Scholarships are available to initiated members in good standing*, as defined by Sigma Lambda Gamma policy, are enrolled in an accredited degree-granting institution as a degree-seeking student during the next academic year, and demonstrated community service and involvement.

*If a member qualifies for the scholarship but is not in good financial standing with the Sorority, then the Education Foundation will deduct the dues amount from the award to bring the member to good standing.

Application Materials

  • Personal Statement: In no more than 1000 words, provide a personal statement that gives insights into who you are and why this grant will help you. This will assist the selection committee in getting to know you and consider you a qualified applicant for a Sigma Lambda Gamma Education Foundation Grant. Be sure to address the following questions. 

    • Share your commitments: work, volunteer, family, community, church, campus activities (emphasize leadership roles and long-term commitments.

    • Share your area of study and why (do not let the reviewer make assumptions – explain your thinking)

    • Share future plan(s) – what are you planning to do when you complete your studies (and how will you give back?)

    • What is your dream post degree career?  

    • What impact do you want to make in your field?  

    • What are the steps you plan on taking to achieve your goals?  

    • How will this scholarship support you in reaching your goals?

  • Resume - Please submit a resume or curriculum vitae, including employment history. Make sure you include all your leadership positions, special honors, and community, volunteer, and campus activities.

  • Two Letters of Recommendation - Two letters of recommendation are required to be considered a complete application, and at least one must be from a member of Sigma Lambda Gamma National, Sorority, Inc.

  • Transcripts - One unofficial transcript from each undergraduate or graduate institution you have attended is required.
